Community Supported Agriculture on Martha's Vineyard

The Value of CSA

CSA or Community Supported Agriculture is a program where people in the community buy a share in the farm’s harvest for the season. Members pay for their shares at the beginning of the year to help fund the farm.

This way the farmers have the money to buy seeds, fix equipment, pay for labor and all of the other expenses involved with starting up a growing season. The members, in return, get weekly pickups of freshly grown vegetables at a lower cost than what they would pay at a grocery store.

It's not just about saving money. There is the satisfaction that is gained from being part of the community and being directly involved with the farm.

CSAs not only supports the community but are also greener. If produce is grown locally, there are fewer trucks needed to transport the food across country.
